2 Miles from Disney World - Workology

2 Miles from Disney World 2 Miles from Disney World I love Disney World. It never gets old for me. I go every chance I get and I geek out about it every time. I get updates on new rides, restaurants and attractions so I can be prepared. I know the ins-and-outs of the parks and resorts. And I know Goofy is definitely NOT a dog. Ive spent the past couple days attending the HR Florida conference in Orlando. Ive had a fantastic time so far met more great people, learned and refreshed my HR mind, and got to see behind the curtain of one of the greatest HR shows on earth. Its a privilege and Im beyond honored to be here. Unfortunately, Im not one of those bloggers who can bang out a post immediately after consuming sessions. I wish I was. But my creative juices just dont flow like that. So youll have to tune in next week for my wrap up posts. What I can share now is the view from my room at the resort hotel. Its absolutely beautiful! I have a fantastic view of Downtown Disney, Hollywood Studios and parts of EPCOT and the Animal Kingdom from here not to mention the magnificent pool and golf courses too But I can see Disney World from my room!!! Did I mention I love Disney??? 2 Miles from Disney World So here I am only 2 miles from one of my favorite places. The temptation is to ditch something conference related and go to the World. Or postpone something related to my life back in Raleigh NC so I can stay a day or two longer and enjoy the World once the conference is over. But I wont do either. Because now is just not the time for that. It occurs to me that we face this in our organizations every day. Projects we wish we were doing. Meetings we wish we were attending. Discussions wed rather be having. The temptation to ditch or delay what is necessary in order to do something more fun or easy an all-too-familiar conundrum. Dont do it. Dont abandon the necessary things for the desirable things. And never abandon either for what is right and/or essential. Why? Someones always watching. Im not just talking about getting caught or in trouble; Im talking about providing appropriate examples. If youre slacking, the people reporting to and working alongside you will think its OK for them, too. Desirables dont have deadlines. Usually, the fun and easy things wed rather be doing dont have any due date or pressure along with them. When we are ready and have true time for them, the desirables will be there. Without a doubt, we all need down time and respite in our workdays and our work lives. And just like anything else we do, that requires proper planning and a little patience. Always be patient with yourself and the process it takes to get where you want to be. So instead of having a tantrum or stealing moments that arent really going to give the full experience, Im going to enjoy being 2 miles from Disney World with some of the best and brightest in my profession and wait with anticipation until I get to truly vacation in Disney World again (about 450 days from now, but whos counting?!?) Be sure to follow all the great sharing from the HR Florida conference on Twitter and Instagram using the #HRFL13 hashtag and read more about it on their blog HR Mouth of the South. Then get back to doing whats necessary in your world.

Using the C.A.R. Method on your Resume

Utilizing the C.A.R. Strategy on your Resume Have you heard me talk about the C.A.R strategy? In the event that you are a customer of mine, you have. Its a technique I use in each and every resume. It is, to me, the absolute most significant factor when expounding on your achievements. Alright, so what does C.A.R. represent and I'm not catching it's meaning for you? C.A.R. represents: Challenge Action Results While talking with customers and continuing with the information mining process, I generally get some information about their C.A.R. stories. What were the narratives behind their achievements? What was happening in the organization before they took on the issue? Give the peruser some foundation, not a novel, only a trace of what the earth resembled. So ask yourself, what was the Challenge I confronted when either an) I joined the organization or B) I took on the new circumstance or C) I was promoted? Briefly talk about the Challenge. Once more, it doesnt must be excessively protracted. You simply need to convey the desired information. For the Action divide, this is the place you can discuss what you did to determine or change the circumstance. What activity or steps did you take? For certain employments, it may be very point by point, however I wouldnt prompt discussing each and every thing. Sum up as most ideal as. Keep in mind, HR individuals have heaps of resumes to survey and not a great deal of time. For the Results segment of C.A.R., talk about the outcomes. What was the level of creation increment? What amount did you increment deals or individuals profitability? Use numbers and rates at whatever point conceivable. These are the things that stick out and make you progressively employable as managers need PROOF of what you are fit for doing it gives them what you can accomplish for them also. C.A.R. is the most effortless approach to pull out your achievements on the off chance that you are making some hard memories considering what you did. Good karma! Technorati Profile z5iqbm5qjw

What To Wear for a Skype Interview (Reviewed June 2020)

What To Wear for a Skype Interview (Reviewed June 2020) What To Wear for a Skype Interview Other Preparations 2020 what to wear for a skype interview - Image Source: UnSplash.com / Caleb BettsIf you  have been invited to sit for a job interview via Skype, do not for one second disregard the fundamental requirements of the classic, traditional interview, and what to wear for a job interview. The question of what to wear for a Skype interview is only one of a few factors of the pretty much ‘all visual’ nature of online facetime that you have to nail, even before you think about how you’re going to respond to questions.  What to Wear for a Skype Interview Other PreparationsThis isn’t just about clothing, but a full, in-the-round realtime visual representation of your best self. It is  so  important that you don’t take for granted the ‘one remove’ nature of the interview as some kind of a pass. Think about the potential for comicâ€"and fatalâ€"mishap if you were to wear a slick shirt and tie, but pair it with shorts or sloppy  sweat pants, just because the interviewers can’t see your lower half. What happens if you have some form of IT-related problem or have to rise from your seat at some point? The half-baked approach is tempting fate.  ImageNamePriceConsult Expert Sources! What to Wear for a Skype Interview Other Prep Consult Expert Sources! Image Source: Amazon Check Price One of the best ways around the anxieties of how best to prepare for a Skype Interview is, of course, to look at what the experts say, and there is no shortage of literature on the subject of how to excel in video/Skype interviews, with Mike  Koenigs’ great little guide  How to Be a Video Interview Pro being one pretty good example. If you were to boil these tips and strategies down to a single essence, though, it’s that you should never treat the  Skype interview casually in any way.  Skype interviews have  their own intricate set of protocols that you should research carefully. Like the  telephone interview, you underestimate the  Skype variant at your peril! It might be useful  to think of it as an interview via television. Impressions are conveyed incredibly swiftly from television appearance, and a similarly rapid, and lasting, evaluation process takes place in the mind of the viewer/interviewer during a Skype interviewer.  Think carefully about how quickly you form an opinion about someone while they’re being  interviewed on television. It’s kind of uncomfortable to think of yourself in that position, isn’t it? Well… not if you prepare just as assiduously as you would for a traditional interview. Only there is  a crucial twist. In the Skype interview, appearance is in some ways  much more important. Not only must you choose the correct attire,  but also dress your immediate environment, to ensure  it creates the best impression.2. What to Wear fo r a Skype Interview Other Prep Research the Organisations Dress CodeImage Source:  unsplash.comBase your look on what you expect other employees to be wearing at the job. Naturally, if you can learn  the specific dress code prior to the interview, that will score an important point right off the bat when you meet your inquisitors online. If you’re unable to find the actual guidelines, then keep  it simple. You can’t go wrong with a shirt and tie, although you’re best to avoid any pattern in the shirt. Keep things plain, simple and non-distracting. Image Source: Amazon Check Price Although your bottom half wont be seen, dress professionally from head-to-toe. Apart from ensuring that you will not look foolish in the unexpected event of your having to get out of the chair while online, a full, professional business outfit, head-to-toe, will help place  you in the right frame of mind, and you will feel and act more professionally.3. What to Wear for a Skype Interview Other Prep Be Conscious of Lighting Image Source: AmazonSome experts suggest setting up two lights on each side of your laptop/web cam set-up, so that you can experiment with the ideal lighting, in order to ensure your features are not literally shown in an unflattering light. This touches on the extremely visual nature of the Skype medium for conducting a job interview. Check Price 4. What to Wear for a Skype Interview Other Prep Dressing Your  Surroundings Image Source: Amazon Check Price The  question of what to wear for a Skype interview has implications not only for your own appearance but the appearance of your immediate surroundings. It’s  probable that your only interviewer, or one of them, will be your future manager. You do not want this person to think that your room is a mess. Ensure your home-office or whatever environment you have chosen for the interview conveys impressions of neatness, tidiness, order and professionalism. If your environment is untidy, the implication is t hat so  are you!You could go the whole hog and take a look at something like Donna Paul’s  Home Office Book or any number of other guides to preparing an office in your home, for guidance on this point. Not only will consulting such guides prepare your surroundings cosmetically, but you could regard this as the first step in a process of becoming more productive in your life and work. The bottom line is; if  you take the call  at home, choose a  suitable room a study or lounge and preferably a part of that room with  a neutral backdrop. Things to avoid include any distracting decorations, or anything conveying personal information that a third party does not need to know.  It should go without saying  that if you share the house with others, either ask them to not be at home, or not to walk into the room during your interview. Nothing will derail an interview more quickly, and convey more of a sense of chaotic unprofessionalism, than an uninvited guest. So, when considering what to wear for a Skype interview, cover  all  the basesâ€"think about everything the interviewer will see and make sure it’s perfect. Check Price 5. What to Wear for a Skype Interview Other Prep Computer Display IPS Eye Care Screen with HDMI Image Source: Amazon Check Price It is always a good idea to take a dry run before the interview proper. Practice with a friend  and be vigilant for any errors that prove to be a distraction to the person who is posing as the interviewer.  If you have a flawed internet connection, not only is it annoying, but it also has the potential to fatally disrupt the seamless audio-visual account of your suitability for the job that you have worked so hard to prepare. The wearing of earphones or a headset is recommended. These make the audio much clearer and easier to understand, and eliminate feedback at the interviewer’s end. Remember, it’s best to spot any potential problems in advance, rather than the unsatisfactory, and ultra-distracting, approac h of pointing out or apologise for problems during the actual interview. So there you have it. Now that you have your clothes chosen, and your ‘stage’ appropriately dressed and fully functioning, you know what to wear for a Skype interview. It’s time to research those questions, safe in the knowledge that you really are ready for your close-up. Lights, camera… action!
